Located in the Valley of the River Taverone Licciana Nardi in an environment rich in nature and history, the small castle of the Malaspina in which the Company ” Castel del Piano ” seems like a fragment of medieval Lunigiana , coming to us with all the atmosphere of its glorious past .
The meticulous restoration , which took place on the basis of drawings and archive information , has fully recovered the spirit of this place , which seems magical.
The vineyards , olive groves and woods , from which the company draws its agricultural products , are the ideal setting in which to relax and spend unforgettable moments.
The territory of Lunigiana is the richest in Italy for vines. For centuries it has been a land of moving of people and goods ( Via Francigena , Via del Sale, etc. . ) And perhaps this has enriched the viticultural heritage . The “lunigianesi ” vingrape varieties are the subject of study by the University of Pisa with the help of many passionate winemakers and has been made into a vineyard “experimental” where they collected the most interesting varieties of plants . We mention some names : Vermentino bianco, Pollera , Marinello , Groppello , Durella , Albarola , Uslina , Lugliesa , Bracciola , Barsaglina ,CaloriamLuagda ,Pinzamosca , Verdella , Varano bianco etc. .
Unfortunately, by the run of the years, in the face of this rich natural heritage , we had lost the tradition and experience of the ancient wine growers , especially in the valleys of the interior. But this territory, now as then, offers excellent conditions for viticulture.
When a few years ago it got decided to replant vineyards some of this manor, the choice of vinegrape’s varieties was done trying to plabt the varieties that could produce fragrant wines: Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio , Merlot , Chardonnay, along with the indigenous grape varieties most interesting of these valleys, producing a ” blend” exciting and unique .
The summer climate is characterized by very hot days and bright, while the nights are cold and dry thanks to the night breeze that blows from the Lagastrello Pass into the valley . This temperature range is ideal for wines very fragrant.
